Lendal Rex Burton, a longtime Agra area resident, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012 at his home at the age of 75 years.
Graveside services have been entrusted to the care of the Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, OK and will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday May 22, 2012 in the Euchee Valley Memorial Park, Cushing, OK with Brother Clint Stoddard officiating.
The son of the late Martin Luther Burton and Anna (Taylor), Lendal was born on June 26, 1936 in Rector, Arkansas where he was also reared and educated. Lendal enlisted into the United States Navy. He was united in marriage to Nina Merle Stoddard on May 29, 1960 in Cushing, OK and to this union three children, Len, Nila, and Elmira were born. After receiving his honorable discharge from the Navy, Lendal and his family moved to Cushing before making their home in Agra.
Lendal had worked for a short time at Tinker Air Force Base, was the city manager at Stroud and Fairview before working at Mercury Marine in Stillwater. He had worked as a maintenance electrician for over 25 years before his retirement. Following his retirement, Lendal began raising cattle and growing wheat.
Lendal was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on May 24, 1960. He loved to fish and camp when he was able, especially visiting Heyburn Lake and Keystone Lake. Lately he had enjoyed his morning coffee time in Perkins and Cushing. Lendal will be remembered as an extremely independent man and one that never had a bad word to say toward anyone.
Survivors include his three children, Len Burton of Seattle, WA, Nila Bond and her husband James of Agra, and Elmira Johnson and her husband Tim of Greenwood, IN; two brothers, George Burton and his wife Ann of Cushing and L.C. Burton of Kansas City, MO; 13 grandchildren, Richelle, Joshua, JaLisa, Jacob, Jonah, Jordan, Vanessa, Veronica, Nicholas, Chloe, Christian, Trevor, and Gabrielle; seven great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, Lendal was preceded in death by his wife, Nina; two sisters, Ruth and Grace; four brothers, Isaac, Doy, Coy, and Orville; and one great-granddaughter, Sara.
