Arthur Dartland
Patterson
August 20, 1955 – August 4, 2020
Pancreatic and Liver cancer took him at 7:30 AM on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Arthur Dartland Patterson (Art) lost this battle passing from this world into the presence of Christ. His reserved quiet manner, strong behind-the-scenes nature and subtle sense of humor will serve well in God's kingdom keeping the gardens tended and abounding laughter among the heavenly hosts.
Son, brother, nephew, cousin, husband, father – while never perfect in any role, Art owned up to his mistakes and wanted the best for all. He did what he felt was right for the person he was helping, and he helped many.
A true patriot as evidenced by the American Flag draped on his living room wall, the novelty caps he wore of stars and stripes, the decals on his truck, the online newsletter subscriptions filling his inbox, the radio programs playing in the background, the TV shows he watched and the discussions many of us got in to when he was around… Art truly loved his country.
Josh mattered to Art, immensely, and was always on his mind. As he learned later in life, Art mattered to his stepdaughter Christina more than he ever knew… this made him happy to know how much she loved him and that he had made a difference.
Arthur was born on August 20, 1955 in Canton Ohio to the late Charles "Richard" Patterson and Mary Anderson Patterson. He attended the New Philadelphia Church of Christ as a child. Arthur loved animals and enjoyed the outdoors, camping and fishing, working most of his life on Ohio farms and later in Arkansas in road construction. His dad's failing health brought Art to Arkansas to be close and help out around the house for several years. Art was a simple person who knew how to live affordably while having all he needed and being able to help and give to others. His sense of humor often found him shopping for the perfect rubber snake or odd mask to wear at the most unpredictable times… Alf was his favorite.
Arthur is preceded in death by father, Charles Richard Patterson; mother, Mary Anderson Patterson; sister, Debbie Patterson Jackson.
Arthur is survived by son, Joshua David Patterson of New Philadelphia, Ohio; daughter, Christina Holderbaum of Dennison, Ohio; brother, George Patterson of Chandler, Oklahoma; sister, Joy (Vinson) Bair of Cushing, Oklahoma; Brother, Matthew Patterson; sister, Michelle Patterson both of Hot Springs, Arkansas; grandchildren, Makenzie Patterson, Camry Patterson both of New Philadelphia, Ohio; Nieces & Nephews, Beckie Perez Gonzales, Paula Jackson Smart both of Beach City, Ohio; Scott and Christopher Bair of Cushing, Oklahoma; Evelyn Patterson Compton of Chandler, Oklahoma; many great nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Only those who knew him best can relate to this excerpt from a poem by Kahlil Gibran – "For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and melt in the sun?"
Memorial services will be held on a future date, yet to be determined.
