Obituary

Beatrice Mooreland, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019 at the Drumright Nursing Home at the age of 97.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 10, 2019 at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Cushing, OK.  Interment will follow at Silver Star Cemetery, Cushing, Ok.

Visitation will be held on Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Marler Funeral Home.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.

Beatrice was born on September 1, 1921 in Yale, Oklahoma to John and Addie (Fletcher) Thompson.  She grew up in Cushing and Oklahoma City, graduating from Douglas High School in 1940.  Beatrice later attended Business school.  Beatrice moved to California for a while and worked.  When she moved back to Cushing she met the love of her life Cecil Mooreland.  They were married in January of 1944.  To this union, Ronald, Sheral, Cecil, Dennis and Anthony were born.  They moved back to Cushing to make their home.  Beatrice worked for the City of Cushing for 34 years as the librarian.   She was also the assistant manager of Washington Heights Municipal Swimming Pool for years.  Beatrice was one of the founding members of the Royal 12.  She was a very active member of Mount Olive Baptist Church, serving as announcing clerk, treasurer and a member of the Gospel Chorus.  Also, Beatrice served on the Payne County Election Board.  She enjoyed cooking, reading books, many newspapers daily, working crossword puzzles and organizing family get togethers.  Beatrice loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her daughter Sheral Willis of Ardmore, sons Cecil Mooreland and wife Curdel of Cushing, Dennis Mooreland of Cushing, and Anthony Mooreland of Norman, grandchildren Donald Mooreland, Deadra Waters, Lachelle Diallo, Dennis Mooreland, Tyrone Mooreland, Leilani Mooreland, Tiffany Ashley, Kevin Mooreland, and Chandrell Mooreland, 23 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her son Ronald Mooreland, grandson Darran Mooreland, brothers Leonard Thompson, Kenneth Thompson, Ernest Cartwright, sisters Genevieve Jones, Maggie Christian, Edith and Wynona Thompson.
