Butch
Gay
July 27, 1957 – October 20, 2023
Allen Farris "Butch" Gay was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was the fifth oldest of six children. His parents lived in Okmulgee, Oklahoma & Hobbs, New Mexico before settling in Cushing in 1961, with, at the time, five children. Then, in 1964, his youngest brother was born. Butch and his five siblings grew up in a small two bedroom house on Main Street, across from the Dairy Hut which is now Homestead Restaurant. They enjoyed collecting glass pop bottles to redeem for cash to buy candy at the old Bill's EZ Out, where Subway is now. He loved spending summers at his Grandma & Grandpa Stewart's home at Camp Creek Lake, Texas. He also enjoyed playing baseball, and riding bikes with Kim Kates.
He attended Cushing schools and began his lifelong career in the oil fields, working every position possible. If it's on a rig, he has done it.
When he wasn't working, he was listening to Pink Floyd and fishing every chance he got, taking and teaching his kids and nephews how to fish. With bragging rights, he caught a 5 foot catfish once.
Butch was fearless in life. There wasn't anything he would not take off and do. He was teller of tales, to anybody that would listen.
Butch married Nancy Sadler on September 29th, 1979 in Cushing, Ok. Nancy entered this marriage with two children, David and Amy. Then to this union was born Jason Allen. He also has another daughter, Nicole, from a previous relationship.
He was preceded in death by his parents William Farris, Jr. & Vivian Gay, and a sister Sandy Payne.
He is survived by his children Jason Gay & Carol of Panama City, FL, David & Jackie Lemon of St. Petersburg, FL, Amy Lemon of Perkins, OK and Nicole Pelky, of Prescott, AZ; Four siblings, Melaine Kelley, Vickie Meeks, Bill Gay and Les Gay.
Also his grandchildren, nephews, nieces, and many friends.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. The family will hold a private burial at Euchee Valley Memorial Park.
