Obituary

An old cowboy rode out into his last sunset on February 8, 2022. Charles "Pete" Schroeder entered this world on March 29, 1932. He was born to Anton and Violet "Frick" Schroeder. He was the eldest of the Schroeder family for years and now passes the torch on.

Pete was always involved with horses and mules. From working ground with a team to using a horse for working cattle. In his younger days, he would ride his horse to town to rope with the Stillwater Roundup Club or to attend square dances.

He married Patricia "Pat" Parkes on June 27, 1953. For their honeymoon, they attended a rodeo where Pete was entered in the bull riding.

He worked in the oilfield early in their marriage and moved on to construction. He helped build Kerr-Drummond at OSU. He then was foreman of the construction of a nursing home in OKC. From there he ventured out on his own and became a dealer for Chief Metal Buildings. He built barns all over, the boar test station, and the UPS building.

Pete always had a stud and bred outside horses for years. He even had a riding stable for a couple of years. He always had horses, cattle, sheep, hogs, and a couple of milk cows. In 1974 he had the opportunity to buy a larger farm and increase his cattle and hog numbers. That led him to build a hog finishing floor. He got a truck to haul his corn in which led into his trucking business. With asthma, he transitioned into hauling cattle. His son, Andy, and he hauled cattle together for a couple of years. Pete hauled all over the country. His last load was when his rig turned over during the tornado outbreaks of May 1999. He and Pat ran cattle until his failing eyesight caused him to retire.

Pete was a member of the Perkins Round Up Club for years where he held different offices. He always loved the team pullings and was thrilled to be the line official. He was also president of the Coop board of directors. He enjoyed going to his kid's horse shows and rodeos, listening to his grandson, Tate, sing, and playing mills.

He is preceded in death by his parents and wife.

He is survived by his four children, Kathy (Robbie) Taylor, Margaret (John Church) Schroeder, Andy Schroeder, and Dan (Jeannie) Schroeder. His grandchildren include Clint (Melissa) Taylor, Charlie (Michelle) Taylor, Stacy (Tony) Reed, Karl Bauer, Shelby Schroeder, Will (Rachel) Schroeder plus eleven great grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, Mike (Judy) Schroeder, Joe Schroeder, and sister, Betty (Dave) Puckett.

We want to thank all the Red Bud employees for their kindess and caring to Pete. They made his last Days as comfortable as could be. We also want to thank Companion Hospice.
