Danny Glen Smith of Tulsa, OK, passed away Saturday, February 25, 2023. Danny, born in 1944, grew up in Tulsa and was a football standout at Tulsa's Central High School and played football under Bill Yeoman at the University of Houston. His coaching career included McLain High School and Mason High School in Tulsa, as well as Sapulpa High School and Kellyville High School, before joining his cousin Bill Smith at Aldine High School in Houston. From there he moved to a teaching job in Odessa, TX, where he taught elementary PE. Then to Tulsa's Hysperia High School and Barstow High in Barstow, CA, from which he returned to his hometown Tulsa for his retirement years.

Danny will always be remembered for his open, friendly personality, artistic creativity, caring, helpful nature and his wonderful way with children who were especially delighted (as were adults) with his incredible storytelling. His love of Indian history, lore and art, was the result no doubt of his Cherokee heritage from his paternal grandmother Maggie Shoemake Smith.

Dan was preceded in death by his wife Jill and his father, Ronald Glen Smith of Tulsa. He is survived by his mother Edith Bevel Smith, sister Patricia Smith, daughter Carrie Rae Guinn, sons Bobby Smith and wife Rachelle in Texas City, and Chris Smith and wife Michelle in Pearland, and grandchildren, Meghan Smith, Fallon Guinn, Justin Smith, Colton Smith, Addison Smith and Maverick Smith and his aunt Della Mae (Dot) Parker of Oilton, OK.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Oilton.  A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2023 at Highland Cemetery in Oilton, OK.
