Darrell Keith Penrod Sr., 76, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, passed away on September 10, 2026, in Oklahoma City. He was born on June 1, 1950, in Parkland, Oklahoma, to Nolon E. Penrod and Ethel V. Howard Penrod.

Darrell was born and raised on a milk and cattle farm in Parkland, Oklahoma. Growing up as one of seven siblings, he came along later in the family when many of his brothers and sisters were already grown, giving him a unique place within the family. His years on the farm helped shape the strong work ethic, determination, and practical skills that he carried throughout his life.

He attended Parkland and Agra High School and was raised in the Church of the Firstborn. His faith remained an important part of his life, and in later years he attended Crossing Church in Oklahoma City. Darrell always carried love for the Lord in his heart.

Darrell spent an impressive 41 years working in the healthcare industry, specializing in maintenance and operations. Through hard work and dedication, he worked his way up through the ranks and built a career he could be proud of.

Darrell was a hands-on man who enjoyed working with his mind and his hands. In his younger years, he and his friends were part of a group affectionately known as the “shade tree mechanics,” where they would gather beneath a big tree and spend time swapping out engines and transmissions. One of his favorite memories was restoring a classic black Chevy Impala, which he enjoyed driving for approximately six years. He also enjoyed riding motorcycles and the sense of adventure they brought.

Music was another special part of Darrell’s life. He loved rock and roll, with Creedence Clearwater Revival and the Eagles among his favorites.

Darrell had a special love for animals, especially schnauzers. He had schnauzers as companions since he was a young boy, and his most recent and beloved companion was his dog, Sadie. His love for his animals was evident in the special place they held in his heart.

Most of all, Darrell loved his family very much. Although expressing his feelings was not always easy for him, the love he had for his family was genuine and deep. His family and friends will remember him for the life he lived, the memories they shared, and the unique personality that made him who he was.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, Nolon and Ethel Penrod; brothers, Earnie Ray Penrod and Don Wayne Penrod; sisters, Dolores Shepherd and Colleen Taylor; and baby sister, Karen.

He is survived by his loving companion, Joyce of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; sons, Darrell Penrod Jr. and wife, Lori, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, and Derek Penrod of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; grandsons, Devin, Dylan, and Ian; great-grandsons, Devin Michael, Grayson, and Benson; sisters, Barbara Brown and husband, Gary, of Friona, Texas, and Lila Ernst and husband, Richard, of Agra, Oklahoma; along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Providence Hospice, especially Jon and Cyndi, and to all those who were there for Darrell, providing him with comfort, care, and love during his final days.

Darrell will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, at the Parkland Cemetery.
