David M
Beachy
November 10, 1942 – December 20, 2020
David M. Beachy passed peacefully from this life on Sunday, December 20, 2020 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
He was born November 10, 1942 in Dover, Delaware to parents Arthur Sr. and Mary (Mast) Beachy. David was raised in Kent County Delaware moving to Kennedyville, Maryland at the age of 14. He was united in marriage on August 25, 1966 to the love of his life, Elsie Amanda Yoder in Belleville, Pennsylvania. They would then set out in their VW Van on a six-month honeymoon traveling to the west coast, up into Canada, and across Canada back to Maryland, spending only $630 their entire trip.
In 1970, the family had sold everything they owned and set out to move to Alaska to build the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. On their trip David would receive word that environmentalists had shut the project down and he might as well not come. He continued on to Alaska getting a job as a meat cutter at Safeway. David would then work as a welder and boiler maker across the country before purchasing a farm and settling back in Maryland. After a bout of farming, David began driving a truck and would end up running trucks for many years. He loved telling his stories of cross-country treks even traveling the Alaskan Highway eighteen times!
David was known for living his life in a way, that allowed him to take advantage of opportunities that presented themselves, though he rarely sought them out. After Elsie's passing on May 8, 1994 (Mother's Day that year); David and his daughter Teresa would set out on many adventures together. The David's early experiences in the north had created a deep passion and love for that part of the country and its landscape. Teresa got her CDL to help her father and began their many adventures together. David and Teresa would end up paddling the Yukon River in Alaska which is over 1600 miles. They paddled across the Everglades in January of 2013 and then volunteered at the Iditarod Dog Sled Races in Alaska in March of the same year. They traveled thousands of miles together meeting many people and enjoying the beauty of God's creation.
On December 14, 2016 David was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer and was given only months to live. God however had other plans, and his healing mercy granted David four more years with his family after a full recovery from cancer. Though most of his life was lived in Maryland, David willingly moved to Tryon, Oklahoma in 2018 to assist Teresa in fulfilling her work for the Lord. He cherished each day and lived it to the fullest for God. David was a life-long member at Harmony Christian Fellowship in Millington, Maryland and will be buried at the church cemetery there beside his wife.
David is preceded in death by his wife, Elsie; and one brother, Andrew.
He is survived by his two sons, Walter and wife Ramona Miller of Galena, MD, John Beachy of Columbia, PA and Jeanine Engle of Lancaster County, PA; one daughter, Teresa Beachy of Tryon, OK; 13 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and brothers and sisters, Jacob, Daniel, Samuel, Anna, Clara, Levi, Perry and Arthur Martin Jr.
