Doris Peelman Carter (Johnson), 76, of Cushing, Oklahoma, passed away while surrounded by her family on July 10, 2024.  Doris was born to Warren and Christine Johnson on April 16, 1948, in Chandler, Oklahoma.

Doris's passion to raising her children and grandchildren led her to later in life earning a degree in early childhood education dedicating nearly 20 years to nurturing young minds as a kindergarten and elementary school teacher in Chandler School system.

Doris was a Christian, a loving mother, a dedicated wife, and a cherished member of the Skiatook Church of God.  She enjoyed traveling; from family vacation in Louisiana and Texas, to attending gospel singings with her husband. Doris also loved gardening and working outside with Bo on their ranch in Avant, Oklahoma.  Her dedication to family and her passion for teaching left an indelible mark on all who knew her.  Doris devoted her life to Jesus Christ and her greatest wish was that all of her family find and trust in the Lord.

She is survived by her husband, Bo Carter; children, Dana Stevens, Brent Stevens (Jennifer), Jon Stevens (Michelle), Mecca Pitts (Michael), Shannon Carter (Shannon), Kendra Funk, and Thad Carter; 17 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; and her brother, Bobby Johnson (Ann).

Doris is preceded in death by her former husband, Kent Peelman, and her nephew, Todd Warren Johnson.

Doris was a proud alumna of Langston University. Her legacy as an educator and a family matriarch will be remembered by her family, friends, and the countless lives she touched throughout her life.

Funeral services will be at 2PM on Saturday, July 13, at the Chapel of Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, Oklahoma.  Interment at Highland Cemetery in Oilton, Oklahoma, immediately following.  Rev. William Vance and Rev. Linda Vance will be officiating with services under the direction of Palmer Marler Marler Funeral Home.
