Obituary

Dorothy Louise Fuqua passed away peacefully in the Cushing hospital at the age of 87.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 3, 2016 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cushing. Bishop Hal Moffitt will officiate. Interment will follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, Cushing, Ok.

Family will greet friends at Palmer Marler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday evening.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Ok.

She was born in Cushing on the 8th of May 1929 to William Francis Sims and Helen Fay (Parker) Sims.

She attended Hillside School through the 8th grade and graduated from Cushing High School in 1947. She was a very talented free hand artist and as a Junior drew a large mural of a covered wagon train heading West. The Library teacher liked it so much it hung in the high school library for quite a few years even after she had graduated. She met the love of her life in her Junior year and married Forrest Scott Fuqua October 12, 1947. They were blessed with 3 children, Gary Scott, Cheryl Lynn and Jeffrey Wayne Fuqua.

She was very gifted with talents in crafts such as Quilting, Knitting, Crocheting and Sewing many blankets and other gifts for her grandchildren and others. She particularly loved Bowling and Golf. She excelled in both. She was a dedicated Homemaker and always put the needs of her family first.

She was a long time member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in leadership and teaching positions in the Primary, Young Women's and Relief Society, the Church women's organization. She also was the Director of the church's genealogy and family history programs for 25 years. and was a member of the Cushing Genealogical Society & DAR. She traveled extensively throughout the United Sates for many years researching her family lines. She was blessed with great talent, a quick mind and keen memory in her pursuit of Family History which was one of her joys and love of her life. She assisted many families during her life outside her family lines in their family history work.

She was the oldest of 3 children along with her brother William Edgar Sims and her sister Shirley Marie (Sims) Ivy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother & sister.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Forrest Scott, her 3 children and their families, Gary & Karla K (Seever) Fuqua of Crane, MO and their family, Brian Scott Fuqua & Vanesa, Mason Scott, Ciera Jade, Morgyn Rene, Kendyll Madison & Jaxson Robert, of Raymore, MO, Brett Seever Fuqua & Rachel, Jack Nathaniel, of Branson West, MO, Kirsten K (Fuqua) Smith & Ronald, Katelyn K. & Colton Scott, of Little Elm, TX, Bradley S. Fuqua & Carime Janelle and Adalyn Mae of Ochelata, OK. Cheryl Lynn (Fuqua) Clay & Gene, Cody Allan & Christa of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Jeffery Wayne Fuqua & Valerie, TJ. Amy Louise, Brenna Lee, Katherine Marie, Cassandra Lynn of Tulsa, OK and many of her nieces, nephews and cousins in both the Fuqua and Sims family lines.
