Obituary

Edith Viola Martin McCracken, 86, went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2026. Born on May 27, 1939, on the family farm near Longdale, Oklahoma, Edith was the daughter of John and Mildred (Bowker) Martin. Her roots ran deep in Oklahoma history, as her grandparents, William Martin and Alma (Castor) Martin, were participants in the Oklahoma Land Run and settled on a farm outside of Homestead, Oklahoma.

In 1951, Edith's family moved to Canton, Oklahoma, where she grew up and later married Glen Edwards in April 1957. From this union, two daughters were born, Glenna and Tamara. Later in life, Edith married James McCracken.

Edith was a member of the Davenport Alumni for Class of 1976. She was awarded the title of Davenport's Citizen of the Year. Edith carried herself with determination and devoted her life to caring for and loving her family. She was a 4-H leader for many years and helped coach the high school girls' basketball team during the summer.

Edith was a woman known for her strength, hard work, and tenacity. Edith was president of the Davenport Senior Citizen Center during the time the new building was being built. For many years, she was on the board of directors. She was a tireless worker for the senior center. Her resilience and unwavering spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. She had a deep love in the Lord.

She was preceded in death by her parents; siblings, Homer Martin, Johnny Lee Martin, Veda (Martin) Evans, and Barbara (Martin) Halderman; and grandson, Justin Jones.

Edith is survived by her daughters, Glenna Elmore and husband Donnie of Van Alstyne, TX, and Tamara Blakley and husband Harlie "Skip" of Davenport, OK; her brothers, Richard "Junior" Martin of Guthrie, OK, and Earnest Ray "Dusty" Martin and wife Sherri of Canton, OK; six grandchildren, Jerrod Blakley and wife Leila of Davenport, OK, Heather Gaylord and husband Clint of Davenport, OK, Travis Jones of Colorado Springs, CO, Derrick Blakley of Stillwater, OK, Emily Elmore and Joseph Elmore of Van Alstyne, TX; and nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish her memory.

Edith's life was defined by her strong will, tireless work ethic, and deep love for her family. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Davenport Senior Citizens Center.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Palmer Marler Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Davenport First Baptist Church, 625 Santa Fe Road, Davenport, OK 74026. Burial will follow at Davenport Cemetery.
