Edith Marie
Smith
October 12, 1924 – March 27, 2026
Edith Marie Smith was born on October 12, 1924, in Oilton, Oklahoma to Henry and Mary Ann Bevel. She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years Ronald Glen Smith & her son Danny Glen Smith & daughter-in law Jill Smith. Besides her parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death: Ione Kinty, Irene Ervin, William Bevel, Odie Schultz, Barney Bevel, L.C. Bevel, Helen Stiles, Jack Bevel, and Curtis Bevel—She is survived by her daughter Trisha Smith of Tulsa, 3 grandchildren: Carrie Smith, Chris Smith, Bobby Smith; 6 great grandchildren: Meghan Alexander, Fallon Guinn, Justin Smith, Colton Smith, Addison Smith, Maverick Smith; and 2 great, great grandchildren: Amarra Alexander, and Terry Alexander III, many nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
If you look up the word "sweetness" in the dictionary, you might just find a picture of Edith. I recently saw a photo of Edith from 1940, and I realized she had that same, warm, gentle smile all her life.
Wherever a beautiful soul has been, there is a trail of beautiful memories. 1. On Sundays growing up, aunts, uncles, and cousins met on the Bevel farm for lunch. The aunts fixed the lunch; the grandkids playing outside and always the laughter that filled the air. Those sisters were always full of joy. 2) Edith was a great cook. Her meatloaf was delicious. And Trisha always looked forward to Edith's chocolate pie because the crust was so good. Trish only got the chocolate pie once a year. 3) Edith always encouraged us and saw the positive side of life even during hardships because of her deep faith in God. 4) At both the Bevel and the Smith reunions, she was one of the queens. 5) She kept records of the births and deaths of both Bevel and Smith families. 6) She loved the babies born into the families. 7) She loved music and actually took steel guitar lessons. 8) She practiced her yoga at midnight to keep in shape 9) and she always seemed to be on a diet. 10) She loved the horse races, all sports, and going to the casinos. Family trips were awesome. Whether going to the beach, Mexican bullfights, the horserace in Arkansas, or driving to California (she slept most of the way…poor Glen) she enjoyed life and deeply loved her family. She loved life, deeply loved her family and is the love of our lives. From starting as a Newberry's clerk in Sapulpa to working 40 years for Mid-Continental Oil and Gas in Tulsa, her work ethic was inspiring.
The lessons she taught; the wisdom she shared; she shaped our lives. Her life was a blessing. Her memory is a treasure. Edith, you are loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
To live for 101 years is a blessing but to be loved by Edith was a greater blessing. During her 101 years, she spread joy every single day. She has earned her rest. We love you and you will be missed.
