Gilbert was born on January 21, 1958, to Doris (May) and Gilbert Riedel Sr. in Buffalo, New York. He grew up in Kansas and graduated from Victoria High School. Upon graduation, Gilbert, at age 18, enlisted in the United States Army stationed at Ft. Riley Kansas. During his years of service, he was deployed all over the world, including Germany, Egypt, and other countries. After serving his country for 33 years, He was honorably discharged from A Co BSTB, 45th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Oklahoma Army National Guard, where he achieved the rank of E6 Staff Sergeant along with numerous awards, metals, and certificates.
Gilbert met the love of his life, Lindsay, and was married on September 21, 1990, in Coffeeville Kansas. Together they had four children. Working hard was his passion and he did it unselfishly to provide for his family. He worked for Stewart Stone for 29 years. He cared deeply for and respected his boss, Larry Stewart, and saw his coworkers as friends. In his neighborhood, the kids saw him as grandfather. Gilbert had a heart of gold and never knew a stranger. He was a loving husband, devoted father, fun grandfather, and the dearest of friends. Although we know he has earned his place in heaven with our Lord Jesus Christ, there is a giant void in all our hearts without him here.
Gil is survived by his wife, Lindsay Riedel; four children: William Dale Horton and wife, Michelle; Amy Lynn Westbrook and husband, David; Shannon Michelle McMasters and husband, Dave; and Stephanie Ann Blatchford; 13 grandchildren Thomas, Ashlynn, Garrett, Whitney, TJ, Logan, Mason, Natalee, Christian, Nathan, Kaylin, Preston, PJ, and 2 bonus grandchildren Andolynn and Kelcie; 5 great-grandchildren Bently, Journey, Risely, Jayde, and Wade. He is also survived by siblings Judy, Tina, Darlene, Robin, and Robert; numerous friends; extended family; and all his brothers-in-arms, especially SFC Barrett Miller.
Gilbert is preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Gilbert Riedel Sr., sister Beverly, sister-in-law Audrey, brother-in-law Robert, and 2 grandsons, Dariel and Austin.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gilbert's name to the Youth building fund at River of Life Christian Center, 521 East Broadway Street, Drumright, OK 74030.
