Gladys Geraldine
Flager
June 30, 1927 – January 1, 2024
Gladys Geraldine Flager
Geraldine passed away on January 1st, 2024, at Primrose Assisted Living at the age of 96. She was loved and respected by her family and friends, which were numerous. Geraldine was born June 30, 1927, in Sliver City, OK to John L. Gray and Nora G. (Carroll) Gray. She was the youngest of six children.
On September 6, 1944, in Yale, OK she married Albert E. Flager and had one daughter Connie Jeanette Flager (Porter).
Geraldine was a member of the First Baptist Church of Yale since she was 22 years old and was employed at the church for 14 years as the secretary as well as Sunday school teacher of 4 & 5-year-olds for 40 years. Faithful to her church, she served on many committees throughout the years as well as supporting activities in the Yale community.
For a total of 36 years, she worked for the United States Postal Service, serving as Postmaster from 1983-2003. She was an advocate for Yale getting a new Post Office for the city.
Geraldine enjoyed cooking and having her family around. Although an incredible cook, she always thought that it needed "more salt" or "wasn't fit to eat" which was never the truth. She also was an avid quilter and crocheted many house shoes and blankets for her family. Albert was always proud of her skills and wanted to show them off at the Payne County Fair. However, she never thought they were good enough. The judges knew better, which won her many blue ribbons for her quilts.
She was preceded in death by her husband Albert E. Flager, daughter Connie J. Porter, son-in-law, Charles H. Porter III, parents, brothers Lawrence and Loyd Gray, sister Beulah, Opal, Merle and 9 stepbrothers and 2 stepsisters.
Survivors include grandchildren, who lovingly called her "MeMe"; Charles H. Porter IV of Ft. Worth, TX and Jaylon J. Porter of Waco, TX; Great grandchildren Abigail Grace Porter, Landon Micheal Martin and Charles H. Porter V, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Visitation will be from 3PM - 8PM on Friday, January 5, 2024 at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing. Services will be held under the direction of Palmer Marler Funeral Home at Lawson Cemetery at 11AM in Yale, OK on Saturday, January 6, 2024.
