Harlan "Jay"
Bjorgo
December 9, 1955 – December 26, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Harlan "Jay" Bjorgo on December 26th, 2024, a retired Navy veteran, and beloved family patriarch. Surrounded by the love of his family, Jay departed this life at the age of 69, leaving behind a legacy of service, devotion, and unwavering love.
Born on December 9th, 1955, in Mason City, Iowa, Jay grew up with a sense of duty and honor that led him to a distinguished career in the United States Navy. Jay's Naval career as an Aircraft Maintenance Inspector and Maintenance Technician allowed him to transition from military retirement to Civil Service in the same role at Tinker Air Force Base where he also eventually retired. Serving his country with bravery and integrity, Jay earned the respect of his peers and the gratitude of his nation.
Upon retiring from the military service, Jay continued to focus on his fellow service men and women through his commitment to being an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Jay served as the State Commander from 1999-2000 and continued in service until his death. He was said to be "a dedicated leader, true friend and mentor to many."
Jay shared a loving marriage to Connie for 24 years, of which he gained two daughters, Brandi and Dawna, who he loved as his own. Together, Jay and Connie built a life filled with joy, laughter and cherished memories on the farm.
Jay spent the last couple years embracing life to the fullest, devoting his time to his family and his passions. He found serenity in nature, whether checking jug lines at sunrise or sitting around a campfire at night. Camping, fishing, hunting and winning card games were his happy place, and the laughter and time spent together created memories that will last forever.
Jay found his greatest joy in being a grandfather. He adored his children and found endless pride in their accomplishments. But it was his role as "PaPa" and "PaPa Great" that truly brought light to his life. His grandchildren were the apples of his eye, and he took every opportunity to spoil them with his time, love, and ensuring they wanted for nothing. His smile lit up the most when with the "babies" and he cherished every moment spent with each of them.
He will be remembered for his gentle strength, his ability to make others laugh, and his unwavering commitment to his loved ones. Jay was a man of deep faith, steadfast principles, and a heart big enough to hold everyone he loved.
Jay is survived by his sisters Paula Pinkham of Wisconsin and Reta Ulve of Iowa; brothers Jeff Eskildsen of Perkins, OK, Larry Eskildsen of California, Roger Eskildsen of Iowa and David Eskildsen of Oklahoma; children Brandi and Carson Watts of Cushing, OK, Dawna and Jason McMackin of Cushing, OK, Heather and Damon Jamison of Illinois, Eric Bushell of Illinois, and Brandy Willett of Nebraska; his grandchildren Colton McMackin, Kaitlyn Wilson, Jovi Stukey, Houston Twoguns, Jayden McMackin, Brannon Watts, Andrew Watts, Tyler Dennis, Clayton Jamison, and Caroline Jamison; great-grandbabies (the real MVPs) Carter McMackin, Brooks Stukey, McKenna Stukey, Emersyn Jean, Myles McMackin, and many extended family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife Connie Bjorgo; his son Steven Wacker, parents Ray and Wegie Eskildsen and Clinton Bjorgo; brother Steven Eskildsen; grandson Tyler Stukey and great granddaughter Willow Kait McMackin.
