Howard James Murie, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Monday, August 2, 2021 in Cushing with his family by his side at the age of 61.
James was born on June 23, 1960 in Cushing, Oklahoma to his mother, Hilda Alice (Nullake) Murie. James grew up and attended school in Happy Valley and then Stroud High School. He attended Central Vo-tech in Drumright where he was certified in Heavy Equipment Operating. James met the love of his life, Denise Pratt, in July of 1979. They married on January 23, 1981 in Miami, Oklahoma and from this union 2 children were born Damean and Hailee. James worked with heavy equipment all over Oklahoma, Texas, and Kansas on all types of oil field jobs. He also did dirt work on pools, landscaping, and ponds. He was passionate and precise while working a job. He shared his love of working heavy equipment with his son, as his grandfather before him did. He was an avid O.U. Fan, Yankees fan, fisherman, and fast-pitch softball coach. James was a member of the Sac and Fox Nation/Fish Clan and First Indian Baptist Church. James loved to spend time with his family, especially his grand kids and will be greatly missed.
James is survived by his wife Denise of the home, son Damean Murie and daughter Hailee Murie, step-up dad, Warren Duane Pratt, siblings Theresa Ferguson and Wilma Seigle, grandchildren Abigail Murie, Fisher Murie, Andrew Seigle, Kate Boss Seigle and Olivia Seigle and numerous other nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
A Wake service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021 at the First Indian Baptist Church in Cushing. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 6, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, Cushing, OK. Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK.
