Jack K Vassar passed from this life on Sunday April 14, 2019 at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City with his daughter by his side. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
The son of Ira D Vassar and Bertha Mae Smithson Vassar, Jack was born in Perkins, OK on September 29, 1926. He lived most of his life in Perkins. After graduating high school in Perkins OK he served in the US Army and then went on to graduate from Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater OK. Jack joined his father's business Vassar Manufacturing in 1955 as a salesman, became General Manager in 1968, and has continued to be involved in business decisions.
Jack spent his entire life being involved in community organizations such as Perkins Chamber of Commerce, Main Street Perkins, Perkins Medical Foundation, Territorial Plaza Trust, Stillwater Medical Center Board of Trustees, Payne County Republicans, and various other organizations. Jack was named Oklahoma Small Businessman of the Year in 1972. He was a member of the Farm Equipment Manufacturers Association, served on the National Board of Directors and as President 1972-73. He loved Big Band music and loved to jitterbug. Jack also loved to spend time in Colorado and was an avid fly fisherman.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents Ira D and Bertha Mae Vassar and his loving wife Patsy Jean Merrell Vassar.
He is survived by his daughter Jacqueline Vassar of Perkins, son Kendall Vassar (Valerie) of Coyle OK, son Kevin Vassar (Enrique) of New York, NY, step-daughter Deborah Malone (Johnny) of Norman OK, and sister Marilyn Heath (Richard), 6 grandchildren and many beloved great grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Vassar Community Center on Sunday, May 19, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
