Obituary

James Darrell Poteet Sr., a longtime Agra resident passed away on Monday evening at the Stillwater Hospital at the age of 82. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 18, 2019 at the First Baptist Church in Agra. Interment will follow at Osage Cemetery, Agra, OK. Visitation will be held from 3:00 ~ 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday. Family will greet friends from 6:00 ~ 8:00 p.m. on Thursday evening.

Jimmy was born on February 21, 1936 in Enid, Oklahoma to the late Floyd Harvey and Elizabeth (Horton) Poteet. He grew up in Agra attending Agra Public School. He was a member of the First FFA Chapter at Agra Schools. Jimmy participated in a lot of activities and was the student librarian. He graduated from Agra High School in 1953. He also later in life would cherish his fellow classmates, attending all class reunions and serving as Alumni President. In 2018, he was the Grand Marshall of the Agra Alumni parade which was one of the highlights of his life. James married the love of his life Jo Ann Walker on December 2, 1953 in Cushing, to this union James, Debbie and Michial were born. They were members of the Agra First Baptist Church and loved to eat at church breakfasts and dinners. Just like his parents, he loved their church. He served in the National Guard in the Oklahoma 45 th Infantry.Jimmy began his working career at an early age. He started as a rough neck working for his father Tator Poteet. From that point, he didn't stop working through the steps all the way to Drilling Superintendent. He drilled wells from Oklahoma/Texas to South Africa, Columbia, Sumatra, Indonesia, and Singapore. He slowed down later in life and delivered propane for a few years before retiring to his farm. Jimmy enjoyed telling stories of his adventures through life especially traveling with his wife and family. Jimmy loved to operate machinery of all kinds and enjoyed baling hay and tending to his farm. He also liked to land scape, dance with his bride, and visit Silver Dollar City. James was a bit onery and enjoyed being with his friends and family. The best medicine for dad was to say "Daddy tell me about the good ole days".

Survivors include his children James Darrell Poteet Jr. and wife Dawn of Agra, Debbie Cooper and husband Chris of Cushing Michial Poteet and wife Judy of Agra, sister Carole Hartgrave of Agra, grandchildren Anihtra Watkins and Brandon, Jameson Poteet, Chrissy Whitten and Michael, Jarrod Cooper and Kristen, Michial Poteet Jr. and Jene'a, Kaylee Berryhill and Brad, great grandchildren Hunter Watkins, Annelise Watkins, Scarlet Watkins, Aden and Chadwick Poteet, Piper and Daphne Whitten, Cali and Caleb Cooper, Michial Poteet III "Trey", Mallory Poteet and Harley Jo Berryhill, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, great granddaughter Angel Lilian Whitten.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Stillwater Medical Center, Westhaven Rehabilitation and Karman Legacy Hospice, nursing staff, physicians and all workers for the excellent care and compassion given to James during his illness. The family is grateful for the many prayers, visits, and acts of kindness during this time.
