Janice Darlene Dobson passed from this life on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, with family by her side at the age of 87.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at the Lutheran Church of our Redeemer with Pastor Ron Rafferty officiating. Burial will follow at Lawson Cemetery in Yale, OK. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 10, 2024, from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Janice was born on February 7, 1937, in Cushing to Ella (Adams) and George H. Erickson. She grew up on Violet Street and attended school in Cushing. While in high school, she went on a blind date with Billy Joe and fell in love. While Billy Joe served in the war, Janice worked as a Candy Striper at the hospital. She married Billy Joe one day prior to her 18th birthday, on February 6, 1955, at the Lutheran Church in Cushing. They had two children: Jayson and Jinni. She apprenticed at the Cushing Hospital and learned to be an X-Ray and Lab Technician. In her later years, Janice worked for Oklahoma State University in the Fluid Power Research Center and in the Veterinarian School of Medicine.
Janice was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church in Cushing. Throughout her life, Janice enjoyed camping and being in the great outdoors. She loved to be near water, as she loved boating, swimming, and wading in the creeks. When she was indoors, you could find Janice playing domino's, Ol' Sol, or cooking up some of her famous southern rolls.
Janice was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be missed.
Janice is preceded in death by her loving husband, Billy Joe and her parents, Ella and George Erickson.
Janice is survived by her two children: Jayson Dobson and wife, Carol, and Jinni Fields; four grandchildren: Bryan Newton and wife, Christy, Sarah Critchfield and husband, Joshua, Martha Stoup and husband, Kyle, Myles Dobson and wife, Kenya; seven great grandchildren: Elizabeth and Erick Newton, Ella Critchfield, Eli and Lydia Stoup, Harlee and Rosston Dobson.
