Jeffrey Leeroy Cook, 87, Passed on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at his home. He was born on April 4, 1938, in Ripley, Oklahoma to James and Gustavia Cook.
Jeffrey attended Booker T. Washington and graduated in 1956. He played basketball for the BTW Wildcats. Jeffrey was inducted in the Hall of Fame National Black High School Boys Basketball.
Immediately after graduating High School Jeffrey joined the United States Air Force where he served faithfully for 12 years.
On June 8, 1959, he was united in marriage to Sylvia Naomi Moore and to this union 4 children were born. This marriage ended. On May 19, 1987, he united in marriage to Thressa Mary Cook and to this union 3 children were born.
In 1978 he became Deputy Sheriff for Payne County. From there he went to work for Cushing Transportation where he was a bus driver and mechanic. He then went to work for David Reed Associate Carpet, before retiring.
Jeff accepted Christ at an early age and was a member and baptized at Mount Olive Baptist Church in Cushing, OK. He later moved his membership to First Baptist Church North Cushing where he was ordained and served as deacon until his health declined. He was a long-time member of the Flying Clouds of Oklahoma and the Joyland Singers of Little Rock Arkansas.
Jeffrey Leeroy Cook is survived by his wife Theressa Cook of the home, 8 children, Jeffrie Hancock, Deneen Dawson (Richard), Regina Tucker (Clifford), Lachuna Cook, Jeffrey L. Cook, Jr., Byran Cook, Jeffrey Montez Cook and Marcus Cook, 2 special daughters, Deonna Smith ( Leodis) and Chevonne Bishop, 2 special brothers, Garfield Bridges of Little Rock, AR. And Pastor James Reed, Jr. of Oklahoma City. 26 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, 5 great great grandchildren, 1 special granddaughter Ashawntae Boyd and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Gustavia Cook, grandparents, 2 children, Sharee' Cook and Mychal Cook, 6 brothers, Earl Cook, James Cook, James Williams, Eugene Knighton, James Emery and Joe Davis, 1 sister, Gracie Smith.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Friday, October 3, 2025, at Palmer Marler Funeral Home from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 1:00 PM at First United Methodist Church, 930 S Little Ave, Cushing, Oklahoma 74023.
