Jimmy Ray Ramsey, a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2019  in Cushing at the age of 76.  A Celebration of Jimmy's life will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Cushing Christian Church, 302 S. Linwood Avenue, Cushing, OK.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK.

Jimmy was born on June 12, 1943 in Yale, Oklahoma to the late Tom and Cecile (Huff) Ramsey.   He grew up in Jennings and Hallett area, and graduated from Quay High School.   He then attended Okmulgee Technical School where he received his Diesel Mechanic certificate.

He began his career as a diesel mechanic, working in New Mexico and California, then moving back to Oklahoma where he owned and operated J & L Diesel Mechanics in Oilton, OK.   He married the love of his life, Phyllis Wright in 1988 and made their home in Cushing.   He then went to work at OSU and became the Motor Pool Manager for the next 17 years until his retirement.   After retirement, he and Phyllis traveled to Yellowstone where they worked at the park for 2 years.    They were active members of the Cushing Christian Church where he was an Elder and taught Bible Studies.   He enjoyed working, was a wonderful cook and had many hobbies.

Jimmy will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Jimmy is survived by his sons Jimmy Ramsey Jr. and wife Mona of Round Mountain, Nevada and Tommy Ramsey of Drumright, grandchildren Elijah Ramsey, Ethan Ramsey and Chandler Ramsey,  sister Kay Smith and husband Joe of Cushing, OK, and several nieces and nephews and other family.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Phyllis, and half-sisters Nellie and Sue.
