Obituary

Elizabeth Joanne McFarlin was born on July 4, 1955, in Dewitt, AR to Dewey and Dorothy Wright. Joanne passed from this life in her home, surrounded by her family on Thursday, Oct. 17th 2024. She was the 11th of 18 children. She was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn on July 12, 1969, in DeWitt, AR, by Bro. Henry McFarlin.

On July 9, 1971, she married Lawrence McFarlin in DeWitt, AR. The couple moved between Arkansas and California before settling in Oklahoma in 1976. That same year, they suffered the heartbreaking loss of their newborn daughter, Lora. Despite this tragedy, they were blessed with three more children—two daughters and a son—and in 1991, they welcomed a teenage son into their family.

Joanne worked for over 17 years at National Standard. Later, she and her husband bought Anytime Taxi.  A venture they ran successfully for several years prior to becoming a homemaker, dedicating her time to God, her family, and her passion for quilting. She found great joy in sewing quilts for newlywed couples and was known for her caring and generous nature.

Joanne was married to Lawrence for over 53 years. She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Perkins, her newborn daughter, Lora, ten brothers - Shelton Edward, Doyle, Eugene, Thomas, Bobby, Royce, Nolan, Alvie, Johnny, and James—three sisters—Lucille, Luthelma, and Gladys—and her parents, Dewey and Dorothy Wright, as well as her in-laws, Henry and Velma McFarlin.

She is survived by her husband Lawrence, her son Larry of Laurens, SC, her daughters Candice (David) of DeWitt, AR, and Heather (Jayson) of Perkins, OK, her daughter-in-law Tabitha (Jesse) of Cushing, OK, two brothers; Oscar (Penny) of Dewitt, AR, Luther (Missy) of Lovington, NM, and two sisters; Evon (David) of Pine Bluff, AR and Geneva (Bill) of Las Vegas, NV. She also leaves behind 19 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and a large extended family and circle of friends who loved her dearly.

A visitation will be from 4PM - 8PM on Sunday, October 20 at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, OK.  Funeral services will be at 10AM on Monday, October 21, at The General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Parkland, OK, with interment at Parkland Cemetery.
