Obituary

Leon George Silkwood Sr., a longtime Cushing resident, passed away on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at his home in Cushing with his family by his side at the age of 83.  Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 26, 2022, at Palmer Marler Funeral Home Chapel, Cushing, Oklahoma.  Pastor John Holderread will officiate.  Interment will follow at Parkland Cemetery, Parkland, Oklahoma.

Arrangements are entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.

Leon was born on August 24, 1938, in Ripley, Oklahoma to the late Charlie Clarence and Alma Leon (Cooper) Silkwood.  He grew up in Ripley and attended Ripley High School then married the love of his life Mary Hale on Feb. 9, 1956.  They divorced and he married Barbara and to this union Leon Dee, Leslie and Dayna were born.  Leon worked as a plumber and pipe fitter for 57 years for the Plumbers and Pipe Fitters Local Union # 344.  He was a member of the Church of the Brethren where he loved serving the Lord.  Leon later married Darlene and to this union Leon Silkwood Jr was born.   He and Mary reconnected their relationship and married after 54 years apart on February 9, 2010.  They enjoyed traveling with Village Tours on many trips throughout the United States.  Leon also enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping.

Leon is survived by his wife Mary of the home, children Dayna and Joe Haines of South Carolina, Leslie of West Cliff, Colorado, Leon Silkwood Jr. of Mannford, step-children DeLynn and Barry Powell of Tecumseh, Terry and Lauren Losawyer  of Edmond, siblings Joann Hatfield of Stillwater, Alice Brake of Cushing, Rolla James and Jeannie Silkwood of Cushing, grandchildren Kevin, Kyle, Carrie, Nolan, Lauren, Sam, Katlyn, Nichole, Bryan, Shayla, Alise, Lee, Johnathon and Rebecca, 17 great grandchildren and numerous other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Leon Dee Silkwood, infant brother, brother Clarence Silkwood and sister Rose Marie Silkwood.
