Leonard Elwood
Cooper
April 19, 1930 – August 17, 2019
Leonard Elwood Cooper, longtime Cushing resident passed peacefully from this life on August 17, 2019 at his home, surround by his loving family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, Oklahoma.
Leonard was born one of nine children on April 19, 1930 to Rolla Elwood and Bessie Bell (Brake) Cooper in Perkins, Oklahoma.
He married Norma Jean McGee on March 6, 1950 and to that union was born four children, Teresa, Rickey, Cathy, and Ronald. Family was everything to Leonard, and through the years he made time to visit as many as he could weekly. For 88 years he would bow on his knees every night on the hard wood floor, praying for God's blessings upon them. He loved horses and rode for many years attending numerous rodeos. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, gardening, farming, comedy, traveling, and dancing for many years. He was a part of Cushing Roundup Club, past member of Church of the Brethren, and New Hope Fellowship. He worked for Cushing Wholesale, AL Culberson, Superior, Sabre Drilling, Massy and Moore, and was the owner/operator of Cooper Mobile Home for over 45 years. He loved driving trucks, operating heavy equipment and dozers, and talking on his CB Radio. Above all though, he would want it known that his greatest love was his family, and he is now united in heaven with his parents and all his siblings.
Leonard was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings; Alma Silkwood, Agnes Holmes, Carrie Mae Wiggs, Mable Wiggs, Waldon Cooper, Dortha Courtright, Naomi Kelly, Ruth Tilley, and 5 infant siblings.
He is survived by his children; Teresa and husband Daniel Davis of Stillwater, Rickey Cooper of Perkins, Cathy Cooper of Cushing, and Ronald and wife Susan Cooper of Cushing; 13 grandchildren; 31 great grandchildren; and 4 great-great grandchildren; as well as many extended family members and a host of friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to long time friend Ron Gilbert for his care and assistance.
