Lois Marie
Mcfarlin
May 25, 1945 – May 27, 2023
Lois Marie McFarlin passed from this life surrounded by her family on May 27, 2023, at her home in Tryon. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK.
Lois was born on May 25, 1945, in Tryon, Oklahoma to parents Emil T. and Dorothy Marie (Huffman) Miller. Shortly after her father passed away and growing up the family struggled and was very poor. Lois would help her mother make donuts and floral arrangements and sell them to help make ends meet.
When Lois was 16 years old, she would meet a persistent young man named Bud McFarlin at the Parkland fourth of July meetings under the arbor. He was smitten and asked to drive her home that evening, to which she said no, and turned him down. His persistence paid off and he was saying I love you after two dates. Only months later he turned eighteen and could finally legally marry the love of his life. They were married at Bro. Bob Tibbett's home on November 27, 1961 in front of eight witnesses. At only 16 years old, her parents had to sign giving permission for their union that would last over 57 years until Bud's passing in 2018. They were blessed with four children, Tina, Sue, DeAnn, and Tony. Bud and Lois were both baptized in 1969 at the fourth meetings, the very place they had met. He gave his hand to Bro. Louis Wright and she gave hers to Bro. Henry McFarlin and, together, they started their walk with the Lord.
The family would live in many places including Cushing, Agra, Stillwater, Dallas, and finally moving to the family farm in Tryon. The family worked hard and taught their children your bills get paid first then you eat. Lois loved to have their land look nice. They had worked hard for it, and she kept their 80 acres looking like a park.
Sister Lois was always cooking and taking food to those who were sick or had just had a baby. She was always trying to feed you, no matter how recently you'd just ate! Hospitality was one of her greatest joys, she loved to have company and visit. But you had to make sure you didn't set your cup down before you were finished because she was quick to clean up and would have it washed and put up when you came back for another drink! Sister Lois was faithful to pray, she remembered her children and their needs as well as the brethren. She would often wake in the night and instantly be praying for those in need.
Lois is survived by her children; daughter Tina and husband Wayne Hamm of Tryon; daughter Sue and husband John Turpin of Tryon; daughter DeAnn and husband Jay Varble of Ripley; son Tony and wife Sabrina McFarlin of Tryon; fifteen grandchildren and their companions; eighteen great grandchildren; 2 siblings, Don and wife Shirley Miller, and Nelda Guinn; and a host of extended family and dear brethren she loved as her own.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bud; her parents; and 2 siblings, Harold and wife Judy Miller, and Alfred (Bub) Guinn.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing. Family will be present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to greet friends.
A Graveside Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 2, 2023, at Parkland Cemetery.
