Loretta
Jones
December 20, 1929 – June 11, 2025
Loretta Lee (Franklin) Jones of Edmond made her transition on June 11, 2025.
Born on December 20, 1929, in Seminole, Oklahoma, Loretta was the daughter of Leonard A. "Frank" Franklin and Alma (Henderson) Franklin. Her family moved to Seminole in 1929, shortly before Loretta was born, where she spent her early years and attended Seminole schools. A proud graduate of Seminole High School, Class of 1947, Loretta was a valedictorian and earned a scholarship to attend Seminole Junior College. Her talents in debate and drama earned her a recommendation from the school superintendent to participate in the prestigious Plymouth Drama Festival in Massachusetts. This became a lifelong love of dance and the arts. She was later honored with an induction into the Seminole High School Hall of Fame.
In 1958, Loretta met and married John Harris, and together they had two children: a daughter, Tracey, and a son, Mack- whom she always referred to as her crowning achievements. After her divorce from John, Loretta later married Dr. Jake Jones. She made her home in Shawnee for many years, where she was an active member of the congregation at St. Paul's United Methodist Church. During that time, her children attended Dale Public Schools. Tracey would go on to graduate from Oklahoma State University and pursue a fulfilling career in mental health, while Mack graduated from East Central University at Ada and found his calling as a computer scientist.
Loretta was preceded in death by her beloved son, John "Mack" Harris; her parents; her sister, Irene; and her brother, Bob. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Tracey Elizabeth Harris; her cherished granddaughter, Megan Lee Harris; and dear friend Michael Olga.
Loretta was cremated, and her ashes will be laid to rest alongside other family members at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma.
