Obituary

Loyal "Bud" McFarlin passed from this life surrounded by his family and friends on December 21, 2018 at his home in Tryon.  Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home, Cushing, OK.

Bud was born the youngest of 13 children on November 19, 1943 in Tulare, CA to parents Arthur and Nellie (Burger) McFarlin.  As a child the family would move back to Oklahoma settling near Agra.  Bud grew up in the surrounding area getting into mischief many times with his siblings.

At 17, Bud saw a girl that caught his eye at the fourth of July meetings under the arbor, he would ask to drive her home only to be turned down at first.  His persistence paid off and he was saying I love you after only a couple dates. Only months later he turned eighteen and could finally legally marry the love of his life, Lois Marie Miller.  They were married at Bro. Bob Tibbett's home on November 27, 1961 in front of eight witnesses.  At only 16 years old her parents had to sign giving permission for their union that would last over 57 years.  They were blessed with four children, Tina, Sue, DeAnn, and Tony who can't recall a single time hearing their parents have a cross word with one another.  Bud and Lois were both baptized in 1969 at the fourth meetings, the very place they had met.  He gave his hand to Bro. Louis Wright as she gave hers to Bro. Henry McFarlin and together, they started their walk with the Lord.  Bud would learn the faith through a dear brother and mentor, Bro. Charles Pruitt.  He held to his teaching for his whole life, "Get in the word, find out what it means, and stick with it."

The family would live many places including Cushing, Agra, Stillwater, Dallas, and finally moving to the family farm in Tryon.  Bud worked as an auto mechanic, farm hand, service attendant, meter reader at CREC, meat packer, and raised hogs to sell or butcher for many years.  He was a hard worker and taught his children your bills get paid first then you eat.

Bud was ordained an elder on December 30, 1979 and faithfully served in his office until his passing.  He was blessed to see the healing of God many times and even experienced His goodness himself as he was born with a club foot and was also run over by a car as a young child… but God raised him up and gave him a full life.  He was a helper to many and always sought to lend a hand from monetary assistance to spiritual welfare, Bud cared.  The love of God was evident in his life, and he held a special care in his heart for the children as many loved him as their own family.  He will always be remembered for his sense of humor and love for teasing, he could bring a smile in even the darkest times.  Everyone that knew him knew that red was his favorite color.  The family invites everyone to wear read to the funeral service in honor of Bud.

Bud is survived by his wife Lois of the home; daughter Tina and husband Wayne Hamm of Tryon; daughter Sue and husband John Turpin of Tryon; daughter DeAnn and husband Jay Varble of Ripley; son Tony and wife Sabrina McFarlin of Tryon; fifteen grandchildren and their companions; eighteen great grandchildren; and a host of extended family and dear brethren he loved as his own.

He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings; Ervie Murch, Thelma Wittman, James McFarlin, Henry McFarlin, Ollie Rossiter, LeeRay McFarlin, Mary Rains, Art McFarlin, Faye Pruitt, Nina Hood Rodgers, Sarah Linder Carmichael, and Clarence McFarlin.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Agra High School Gym.  Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 26, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Marler Funeral Home of Cushing, OK.  Family will be present to greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
