Obituary

Marie Louise (Thompson) Wilson, cherished mother, friend, and teacher, went to Heaven on January 15, 2026.

Marie was born on April 14, 1950, to JE and Louise (Gurley) Thompson, in Ada, OK. She grew up in Ada and chose to follow in the footsteps of her beloved older brother and enter into a lifetime of music and education.

Marie met Steve Wilson in high school, and they married in 1970. A few years later, they both graduated from East Central University, Marie earning a degree in education and music. At this time, she began her career as a music teacher in public schools.

In 1977, they welcomed their first daughter, Beth, and two years later, Amanda joined the family. Marie unwaveringly supported her daughters. She chose to help Steve as a bookkeeper, and raise her young daughters in their CPA office, as she had been raised in her parents' typewriter store.

Once her daughters were in school, their family moved a few times around Oklahoma as jobs and needs necessitated and finally returned to Ada. It was here that Marie was able to spend time with her parents and hold her dream job as music teacher at Hayes Elementary, the school she had attended as a child.

Marie was an extraordinarily gifted music teacher. Her lessons focused on movement and interaction, and she especially loved finding ways to support students that struggled most in school. She created innovative digital lessons that allowed students to learn music concepts in fun, interactive ways, and even trained other educators in these digital tools.

Many years later, Marie and Steve moved to Stillwater, OK, to be close to their daughters, who both lived nearby. She began teaching music at Richmond Elementary and added piano lessons to her afternoons, which she continued for the remainder of her life. When the Covid lockdown occurred, Marie used her digital skills to continue teaching piano virtually, finding ways to keep students engaged and active.

Marie was very involved in multiple organizations. She and Steve were active in amateur radio and often volunteered with emergency management. They loved riding motorcycles, and held various roles within GWRRA, often training others in motorcycle safety. Together, they were highly active in Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star. Marie was the current state organist – as she had been for multiple years – providing beautiful music everywhere she went.

Above all else, Marie was a faithful servant of God. She thoroughly enjoyed sharing her God-given musical abilities to help uplift others. Like her brother, she was the organist for multiple churches over the years. At the time of her passing, she provided music for two churches.

Marie fiercely cherished the wonderfully diverse friendships she made across the state and nation. She passed peacefully in her home, having lived a truly full and blessed life.

Marie is preceded in eternal rest by her parents JE and Louise Thompson, her siblings Mildred Janet Thompson (infant) and Carroll Thompson, her husband Steve, and her niece Pam Thompson.

She is survived by her daughters, Beth Watt and her husband Trent, and Amanda Leigh Wilson, her sister-in-law Ellen Thompson, her nephews Paul Thompson and Donna Beagles-Thompson and Will Thompson and his wife Janie, and their children Travis Thompson, Sarah Rainbolt, Philip Thompson, Tim Thompson and their families.

Marie's Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on February 14, 2026, at the First United Methodist Church of Perry (727 Elm Street, Perry, OK 73077). The service will be live streamed for anyone unable to attend in person.
