Marva Y. Morris, age 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 03, 2024, at Oklahoma Heart Hospital (Main) in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

She was born November 15th, 1936 to Gracey and Ruby (Freeman) Moore. Marva attended Booker T. Washington School. She married Melvin R. Morris, Sr. November 15th, 1951 in Cushing, Oklahoma and to this union they were blessed with three children, Wanetta, Melvin, Jr. and David. Their children have always been loving and dedicated to meeting the needs of their parents.

Marva was a devoted homemaker. She enjoyed cooking for her family and was an awesome baker. She also enjoyed needle point and making clothes on her sewing machine Melvin bought for her. Marva would do hair for some of the young girls in the neighborhood charging .50 cent to press their hair or $1.00 to curl hair. She was known for her kind-hearted spirit. She always had a smile on her face followed by a lot of laughter. At the age of 49 years old Marva had a stroke. She had to learn how to walk and talk again. She never gave up on her physical and speech therapy. In later years, even though she dealt with a few health issues Marva always seemed to overcome and bounce back.

Even though she did not make a full recovery from her stroke, she did not allow that to slow her down for the majority of her life. One of her favorite sayings was "The Lord" or "It don't matter". Marva persevered through every obstacle she faced.

To cherish her memory, she leaves a faithful daughter who was her primary caregiver for over 15 years. Wanetta put her life on hold to make sure her Mother had the best of care. Wanetta Jackson of Cushing, OK has three children, Percy Jackson, Jr. (Cindi), Loria Phillips (Randall) and Chantz Jackson (Victoria). Melvin Morris, Jr. (Bernia) of Plano, TX has two children, Tifni House Eubanks (Sterling) and Melvin C. Morris. David Morris (Ruchele) of Enid, OK has three children, LuShena Morris (Ahmed), Camron Morris and Morgan Morris.

Marva has nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. She has three surviving siblings: two sisters, Odette Scobey, Laura Lou Peirson and one brother Erskine Moore, a host of relatives and best friend Mrs. Edna Maynard. Marva is preceded in death by her parents, Husband Melvin Morris, Sr., brothers William Moore, Willard Moore, Wilbert Moore, Wallace Moore, Winford Moore, Charles Moore, Twin Sisters Mary and Emma Moore.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, December 13, 2024 at First United Methodist Church in Cushing. Interment will follow in Silver Star Cemetery.
