Obituary

Mary Violet Christine Swafford of Agra, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on July 10, 2019 at her son's home in Springfield, Missouri surrounded by the love of her family.

Mary Violet Christine Salley was born July 25, 1929, in Tuttle, Oklahoma. The second of 15 children, 12 girls, and 3 boys, born to George and Zelma Salley. She was a dark-eyed, dark-haired girl with a sense of humor and sweetness that showed in her beautiful smile. When she laughed her eyes would disappear and her face would light up.

Mary became acquainted with Charles Swafford before he left to join the Navy. She sent him letters while he was on the USS Ingraham. After returning from the Navy, Charles and Vi fell in love and married on August 14, 1948. She worked as a teacher's aid at Agra grade school in Agra Oklahoma and then took the job of being one of the great cooks at Agra School and worked there for almost 35 years. Her true joy and focus in life were being a wife and mother to four growing, fast-moving, boys, Jack, Steve, David, and Keith.

She leaves behind three sons and their wives, Steve and Cheryl Swafford of Agra, Oklahoma, David and Shirley Swafford of Springfield, Missouri, and Keith and Tina Swafford of Stillwater Oklahoma, as well as, the following grandchildren: Lance Swafford, Mysti Edwards, Austin Swafford, Kristin Bixby, Jennifer Swafford, Amaris Lansford, Jonathan Swafford, Ryan Swafford, Diana Kates and Chelsea Smith, as well as 19 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her sisters: Jean Welch, Joanne Frye, Margie Roe, Gloria Collard, Sherry Hadley and Delinda Pinkerton and her brothers, Glenn Salley and Kenny Salley.

She was preceded in death by her parents George and Zelma Salley, her brother, G.W. Salley, sisters, Donna Watkins, Helen Richardson, Evelyn Joyce Adams, and baby sister Virginia Lou. As well as, the love of her life, Charles Swafford, oldest son, Jack Swafford, grandson, Shane Swafford, and great-granddaughter, Sierra Swafford.

Mary came to know the Lord as a child and always had a close relationship with Him faithfully attending Central Christian Center in Agra for over 30 years. She had a deep, quiet faith. In her last days, she would talk about Jesus and that she would soon be with Him. It was a comfort and joy for her and an inspiration to all who knew her.

The family would like to thank Haven Health and Hospice Care for the special care they took in caring for our loved one. We would also like to thank her granddaughter Kristin Bixby for being her loving caregiver until the last heart-beat. Mary was special and we will all miss her.
