Melvin was born on September 14, 1941 to Alfred L. and Erma I. Clonts in Paden, OK. Melvin grew up and attended school at Blackwell Public Schools. Later, he joined the Navy in 1962, attending basic training at San Diego, CA. Melvin served on the Aircraft Carrier USS Oriskany until his discharge in August, 1965. When he returned from the service he attended Welding school and spent the next forty plus years traveling from state to state.
Melvin married the love of his life, Irene Reed on December 24, 1970. Melvin worked hard for his family making sure they had anything they ever needed. In 2009, he retired from Tanco Engineering and his company gave him a new Harley Davidson as a retirement gift which he thoroughly enjoyed.
In his free time, Melvin loved spending time with family. He enjoyed playing cards and dominos with his grandkids and teasing them immensely. In the spring and summer when it was nice, Melvin enjoyed camping and fishing with family. Around the house, Melvin was known as Mr. Fix-It. There wasn't anything he could not build or repair.
