Obituary

On April 23rd, 1958, in the township of Valley Brook, OK, Michael Wayne Reeves was born to Vernon and Lorraine Reeves. He was a sweet little brother to his big sister, Verna. He became the greatest big brother to four more brothers and sisters.

The family moved to a small acreage in Meeker, OK in 1966. That little mini farm was a great place to grow up for the Reeves clan. All the kids had their daily chores to do, and Mike was about the only one who didn't complain about them.

He was a peacemaker. He hated controversy, and would rather take the blame than see one of the other kids get in trouble. His heart was so tender toward his family.

He started going to church at Parkland. While at a young kids' gathering, he noticed Deborah Herrmann and they started dating.

Mike decided to start his journey with the Lord on September 30th, 1978. Brother Dean Wright baptized him in the family pond in Meeker. It was an extra blessing for his mother, as it was her birthday.

On October 19th, 1979, Mike and Deborah were married at Parkland church, officiated by Bro. Keith Britton.

Mike was hired at Wolverine Copper Tubing plant in Shawnee. He and Deborah lived in Shawnee for a little while, then moved back to Meeker. Two years after their marriage, they were blessed with a sweet little girl, Alisha. And two years after that, they were gifted with a son, Anthony. The four of them made their home in Meeker on the family farm, and later on, an acreage near Jacktown.

Their yard was THE BEST place for outdoor activities. Deb always had a garden, and the immaculately manicured yard was full of flowers. For many years they hosted a 4th of July bash to rival the best! You could count on a cookout, volleyball, numerous games of horseshoes (which was Mike's favorite game) and of course, fireworks and lots of music.

Mike worked for over 30 years at Wolverine. He was a problem solver and inventor. If anyone needed a part to help correct something at work, Mike could make it happen. That spilled over into his everyday life as well. Very few problems couldn't be remedied by one of his inventions. He was the "go to" guy for anyone who needed help with a motorcycle, lawnmower, or weed eater. He was an electrician and carpenter, and he was a whiz at making just about anything that involved solar lighting.

In his younger days, he was an avid fisherman, and he loved riding dirt bikes in the pasture. But anyone who knew Mike, knew his love for Bluegrass music. He was passionate about playing his guitar and dobro, and writing songs. He and his brother, Jeff, spent several years in "Cedar Ridge" bluegrass band, traveling around taking stage in 5 states. His love for music stayed with him until the very end. Good friends and relatives would visit him with their instruments, and if he had the strength, he would play his guitar and sing with them. He was the happiest when music was involved.

Mike fought a hard fight the last few months. But he knew where he was going. The Lord truly was his Shepherd, and he followed Him his whole life.

On October 22nd, Mike left this old world, and began his eternity in Heaven. We know we will see him again.

Those who went before him are his parents, Vernon & Lorraine Reeves; his father and mother-in-law, Carl Herrmann & Virginia Corter; paternal and maternal grandparents; a sister, Verna Cooksey; a niece, LeAnn Brown; a nephew, Gene Cooksey; 4 uncles and 3 aunts.

Left behind are his wife, Deborah of the home; daughter, Alisha Pearson (husband Craig) of Prague, OK; son, Anthony Reeves (wife Ashley) of Fruita, CO; three granddaughters, Baylee Villela, Lexi Villela, and Gracie Reeves. Two brothers, Jeff Reeves (wife Donna) of Guthrie, OK; and Scott Reeves (wife Kim) of Meeker; two sisters, Dianna Wright (husband Steve) of Wichita, KS; and Marcia Bond (husband Gordon) of Guthrie, OK. Mike also leaves an aunt, Barbara Stevenson of Bethel Acres, and his Uncle Larry and Aunt Sue Stevenson of San Juan, TX. There are numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him so much.

Mike's friends were too numerous to mention, but he had a few who should be recognized. James Safar and Tommy Hale of the Shawnee church stayed many, many nights with him. Carl & Debbie Josefy made so many 3-hour trips to visit and play music to Mike. And the Hospice nurses can't be forgotten. Their help was invaluable.

The family appreciates all those who stayed with him, brought food, stopped by to visit and pray for him. Your love and care has meant the world.

Mike had a saying he used after just about every road trip or family function……"And a good time was had by all."  Mikey, you definitely made every occasion a good time for all!
