Michelle Lea
Floyd
June 27, 1978 – February 27, 2023
Michelle Lea Floyd, 44, passed from this life in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on February 27, 2023. She was born in California on June 27, 1978, to parents Darell and Joni (Hayes) McFarlin. Soon after, her family moved to Oklahoma. She graduated from Stillwater High School and Meridian Technology's Business program utilizing their OJT program and diving straight into the workforce. She attended Oklahoma State University, graduating with her Bachelor's degree in Nutritional Sciences. She continued to strive towards getting her master's degree in nutrition counseling, only lacking the internship when COVID came around and shut everything down. One of her favorite memories was when she was able to go to Italy with the study abroad program. She loved traveling the world and seeing the sights, but above all, Michelle loved people.
Michelle was kind, spunky, and most would say even a little ornery, but most of all she loved the Lord. On August 10, 1994, she was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn. She loved things like traveling the world, walking, running, kick boxing and spending time with her family, especially her nieces, nephews, and the greats. She enjoyed taking them out on their birthdays and making each of them feel extra special. She would hold tea parties and fancy dinners at her house, getting them all dressed up to drink Kool-Aid from wine glasses. Of course, she loved buying the noisiest toys for them to take home and drive their parents crazy. She even ran a girl Scout Troop in Tryon for multiple years. She loved helping people and adored Elvis, being certain that he's still alive hiding out somewhere. She liked bright colors and bling that made a person stand out like Betty Boop. Matter of fact, she drove a hot pink '72 Dodge Dart that she had her brother-in-law paint for her. At age 24, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, though that was not going to keep her from living life to its fullest. She went out and purchased a trike so that she could ride bikes laying down. She had a passion for reading and when MS took her vision, she started listening to audio books. Eventually, she got her service dog, Cooper, and after that those two were inseparable until the day that Cooper passed. She loved partaking in the walk-and-wags each year to support her dear friend Jackie and her mission to save the animals. When MS put her in a wheelchair, she began speaking out and joining multiple committees to make places and things more handicap accessible. When MS took the use of her hands, she found things that helped her such as a voice program that would type for her and programs that would allow her parents, and nieces Mesha and Shyla to take care of her. This, of course, created bonds that will truly be missed. Even in death she wanted to donate her body to science and her brain to the MS Research Center. God had a purpose for her while she was here on this Earth and Michelle never stopped giving it her all.
She is preceded in death by her Grandparents Henry & Velma (Garrison) McFarlin, Jess & Winona (Bowen) Hayes, service dog Cooper and dear friend Tom Dittsworth.
She leaves behind her parents Darell and Joni McFarlin of Stillwater; best friend, Katrina Wilson; sisters, Pamela Carter and husband Raymond of Agra, Karen Bates and husband Tony of Tryon; nieces, Mesha Carter, Brittney Carter, Wynona Bates, Shyla Bates, Jeannie Sharpton, and Shiann Edwards; nephews, Anthony Bates Jr, Jacob Carter, Jesse Edwards and wife Madison, Raymond Carter and wife Laney, Jacob Strain, Trey Bates, and Justice Bates; great nieces & nephews, Haven, Kadyn, Silas, Colt, Theia, Avery, Creed, Sloane, Rowyn, and Ridge along with multiple aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family members, friends, loved ones and care takers. Michelle was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
