Myron Franklin
Brown
August 21, 1927 – April 17, 2022
Myron Franklin Brown, 94, passed peacefully from this life on April 17, 2022, at his home in Stroud.
Myron was born on August 21, 1927, in Mound Township of Yale, OK, to proud parents Horatio and Essie (Petitt) Brown. Growing up in Yale, he attended school at Riverside and Eagle and received his life degree from hard work, dedication and perseverance. Myron married Dorothy Ross and to this union was born his four children; Ronnie, Johney, Jimmie and Becky, who were the light of his life. Years later, Myron married Billie Sheppard, who became his life-long companion. Billie brought four additional children to the marriage who Myron claimed as his own.
Myron was a hardworking man. He spent his years as a farmer, brick mason and carpenter. He was so well known for his masonry skills, that years after retirement, many still sought him out to take care of their masonry needs. Many homes and structures stand across the state as a testament to his fine craftsmanship. He built two family homes in Yale during his lifetime and remained in the last one until recently. Myron was also a lifelong musician, picking up his first guitar at the age of 8. He was a gifted guitar player, as well as playing fiddle. He spent his younger years playing at barn dances, later joining a western band playing every weekend at the Ripley Dance. Many evenings were spent playing music with friends; crowds would gather around at family reunions when he and his brothers would start playing a tune. He was a big supporter of the younger generation of musicians in the family, showing young musicians how to make a guitar chord or hold a fiddle. He was his three sons biggest supporter for their high school rock band.
He also loved to work in his garden. Although he planted very little, he reaped bountiful harvests to share with so many. Myron remained very sharp through his older years, he could recall people's names, birth dates, and even which tools his kids borrowed (and hadn't returned yet)! He was known affectionately by his nieces and nephews as Uncle Monkey, a nickname he had carried since his boyhood. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Myron is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie Brown; his oldest son, Ronnie Brown; infant sister, Maggie; brothers, Pierce Brown, Lloyd Brown, Sam Brown, JP Brown and sister, Zona Payne.
He is survived by his children, Johney Brown of Jennings, James Brown and wife Jessie of Yale, Rebecca Withiam and husband Doug of Cushing, Terri Jacobs of Norman, Sherry Harris and husband Daniel of Maysville, AR, Burl Sheppard and wife Mary of Ponca City and Lisa Sheppard of Stroud, plus a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, his beautiful nieces, and friends that were dear to his heart.
A private Memorial Service will be held for Myron in the near future.
