Obituary

Nelda Faye Wright passed from this life on August 6, 2022, in Grand Junction, Colorado.  Her care has been entrusted to Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, Oklahoma.

On September 5, 1934, Nelda was born in Parkland, Oklahoma, to Alfred and Clara (Herring) Moore. She was their third child. Along with her parents, she and her brother, Dale, moved to Delta, Colorado then later to Palisade in the early 1940s. Nelda began school at Fairview Country School in Delta and later went to Columbine Country School. After moving to Palisade in the early 1940's, she finished her schooling by attending Palisade and Clifton schools. While attending school, Nelda only went through the 7 th grade but later in her life she got her GED.

On June 30, 1947, Nelda was baptized into The General Assembly and Church of The Firstborn at 12 years of age. Since that day, her desire was to please the Lord. Living a simple life, Nelda enjoyed visiting with family and friends. In her younger days, she enjoyed working in her garden and canning the fruits of her labor.

In February 1952, she married Roy Chapman in Grand Junction, Colorado. To this union was born 5 children. During their marriage, they lived different places including Reno, Nevada; Halsey and Harrisburg, Oregon; then to Agra, Oklahoma. Nelda cared for her husband during his lengthy illness until his death. Through the years, Nelda continued her desire to please God by serving expectant mothers in the work of midwifery.

In September 1980, Nelda married John Sweeten and lived in Oilton, Oklahoma. After his passing in 1994, she moved to Agra, Oklahoma. She bought a mobile home and lived there with her daughter, Lawana. Through her life, she enjoyed sewing that led her to a love of quilt making.

In 1996, Nelda married Ulyess "Pot" Wright. She moved to DeWitt, Arkansas and cared for him after having multiple strokes and being bedfast until his passing in 2010. She then moved back to Agra, Oklahoma to live with her daughter, Lawana. The following year her heart was broken, after losing both of her beloved daughters within 8 months of each other.

Nelda is preceded in death by her parents; husband Roy Chapman, John Sweeten and Ulyess "Pot" Wright; son, Frank Chapman; daughters, Donna Molloy and Lawana Chapman; siblings: Dale Moore & wife Doris, Clauise Moore, Lila Drake & husband Don, Billy Moore & wife Mary, Steve Moore & wife Billy Jo, Jeanie Taulbe & husband Phil and sister-in-law Trudy Moore.

Nelda is survived by her sons Dwayne & wife Jenny, of Hastings, Nebraska and Joe & wife Angie of Delta, Colorado; son-in-law Dale Molloy of Agra, Oklahoma and daughter-in-law Tawanna Chapman of Agra, Oklahoma; grandchildren Amanda, Kevin, Heather, Wesley, Ben, Jason, Tera, Stacy, Jordan, Jacquelyn, Jewllyan, Addie, Kalli, and Lucas; 25 great-grandchildren; siblings Colleen Albright, Larry Moore & wife Paula and Sharon Haynie, all from Grand Junction, Colorado.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 15, 2022, at The General Assembly and Church of the Firstborn in Parkland, Oklahoma.  Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 14, 2022, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing, Oklahoma.
