Obituary

Richard Howard Williamson, age 64 of Cushing, Oklahoma, passed away on Sunday, September 16, 2018 at his home.   Tribal rites will take place at the Sac and Fox Nation Reservation in Stroud, Oklahoma. Wake service will be held at 5:00 p.m., Tuesday.  Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Euchee Valley Memorial Park, Cushing, OK.

Richard was born on February 20, 1954 in Oklahoma City to Mitchel Howard and Christine (Barker) Williamson.  His education began at Oak Grove School and was a proud Oak Grove Tiger. Richard graduated high school as a Drumright Tornado, where he enjoyed playing baseball, among other sports. He furthered his studies at various colleges and universities, including Haskell Indian College and Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute (SIPI) in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Richard held numerous jobs throughout his time, including the oilfield, welding, farming, realty, even babysitting. He enjoyed being outdoors making a mess of something! Richard knew a little bit about a lot. As a full-blooded Native American, Richard was half Choctaw and half Sac and Fox, belonging to the Chief Clan of the Sac and Fox Nation. Richard, along with both of his brothers, traveled the United States as Traditional dancers, to a number of powwows, making friends along the way. Richard was a southern powwow singer, and a member of the Rose Hill Singers. Richard even went to the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta, as an invited singer of the Rose Hill Singers.

Richard had a great sense of humor and loved life. He made many friends and brightened many lives with his stories and jokes. Richard loved children and could make any child love him back. One of Richard's greatest loves was sitting in his chair with his dog, "Killer".

Survivors include his mother Christine (Barker) Williamson, his partner Angela (Babe) Edwards, brother Robert E. Williamson, granddaughters Halina Williamson and Alyssa "Wap" Williamson, niece Alora Strader. Many other nieces, nephews, cousins, beloved Sac and Fox , Choctaw, and relatives from Tama, Iowa will miss his greatly.

He was preceded in death by his father Mitchel and his brother Josh.
