Obituary

Rodney H. Marshall, longtime Cushing resident passed from this life on Monday, May 13, 2024, at home with family by his side.

Rodney was born on November 26, 1933, to Jewel Louella (McCully) and Robert Hershel Marshall in Asher, OK.  He grew up and attended school in Asher, graduating in 1951.  After high school, Rodney attended Oklahoma State University for a year before being recruited to the United States Army as a radar technician.  After being honorably discharged, Rodney returned to school at East Central University earning his bachelor's degree in education.  While attending school, Rodney found the love of his life, Lola Ruth Cunningham.  They married on November 4, 1960, at Newkirk, Oklahoma and to this union two children were born Lisa Marshall and Erin Merryweather. Rodney has one grandchild, Flynn West Merryweather.

Rodney began his career in education in Okemah and later relocated to Cushing.  His field of study was in history, and he was the director of audio/visual.  He enjoyed sharing his knowledge and inspiring young minds for 33 years in middle school and high school.  In the community, Rodney was active in numerous clubs, including Jayces Club, Red Red Rose Oil Patch Twirlers, and Genealogy Clubs.

Rodney documented all important events for family and friends.; he took his family on numerous trips looking for family genealogy.

In his free time, Rodney loved to tinker and would attend garage sales and auctions to find broken objects to fix and give away.

For hobbies, he collected toy cars, transistor radios, and family history.

Rodney was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. For his ninety years, he was a loving, supportive, kind man.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. A private family service will be held at a later date.

In his free time, Rodney loved to tinker.  He would attend local garage sales to find a broken object that he could fix.  Rodney loved taking Lola out on dates weekly, especially at the dance hall to square dance.

Rodney was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.  He will be missed by all.

Rodney is preceded in death by both parents and numerous aunts and uncles. Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Lola and two daughters, Lisa Marshall and Erin Merryweather; one grandchild, Flynn Merryweather.
