Obituary

Nellie Rose Nugent, affectionately known as Rose, passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, at the age of 89. Born on December 1, 1935, in Avery, Oklahoma, Rose's life was a testament to her loving, generous, and selfless nature.

Rose's early years were spent on the family farm with her parents, Andy and Nellie Heizelman, and her siblings. She was a cherished sister to Maxine Burke, Marie Anderson, Bill Heizelman, and Pearl Mayall, all of whom preceded her in death. Rose's life was further blessed when she married her beloved husband, Otis Nugent, on April 2, 1955. Together, Rose and Otis built a life full of love and laughter until his passing in 2002.

Rose's legacy is carried on by her adoring family. She is survived by her son, Randy Nugent and his wife Karissa, and her daughter, Brenda Butcher and her partner Gary Harmon. Her love will forever be cherished by her grandchildren, Terra Miranov (Stefan), Kyle Butcher, Dusty Nugent (Michelle), Tony Nugent (Jessica), Kayla Pickett, Kaylie Smart, and Kaitlyn Queton (Kevin), as well as her great-grandchildren, Gracie, Taryn, Kyler, Keaton, Vaeda, Everlea, Isla, Tate, Colton, Colin, Bennett, Hudson, and Kannon.

Rose's professional life was marked by her dedication and hard work. She was employed at the Snackette, Braum's, and the Montgomery Wards accounting department before serving the City of Cushing from 1977 to 2000. Her commitment to her community was evident through her extensive volunteer work. Rose was an Assistant Brownie and Girl Scout Leader, a devoted volunteer with Meals on Wheels for over 15 years, a Pink Lady with the hospital auxiliary, and a dedicated worker with the Red Cross at donation sites. She also gave the gift of life through her many years as a blood donor.

Rose's Christian faith was an integral part of her life. She was baptized into the Church of Christ at Cherry and Steele in the late 1960s. She later attended the Cushing Christian Church, and her faith guided her through the joys and challenges of life.

Rose's zest for life was infectious. She had a passion for travel, experiencing the wonders of an Alaskan cruise, the Panama Canal, Ireland, where she kissed the Blarney Stone, and the vibrant colors of a New England Fall Foliage tour.

She also found joy in the simple pleasures of life, such as playing games with multiple groups, especially her cherished Sunday group, "her girls," Shirley, Linda, and Nancy.

Her warmth and generosity knew no bounds, and her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

As we bid farewell to Rose, we celebrate a life well-lived, full of love, service, and unwavering faith. Her memory will be treasured forever, and her example of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire generations to come.

The family would like to thank the angels of Luminos Hospice and the many caregivers for all the love and care through Rose's Journey.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home.  A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025 at Cushing Christian Church with Pastor Jim Forrest officiating. Immediately following the service, burial will take place at Fairlawn Cemetery.
