Roy Gene Vier passed from this life on June 12, 2023. Roy was born in Delta, Colorado on May 29, 1943, to James Edward and Lillie Lucille Vier.
Roy married Marilyn Kay Hiler on July 30, 1963, in Vici, Oklahoma. To this union were born three sons, Robert, Richard, and Raymond.
Roy joined the Army National Guard on March 15, 1960, then reported to Ft. Leonard, Missouri for basic training. He was honorably discharged in October 1960 to join the United States Marine Corps and reported to boot camp on December 27, 1960, at San Diego Recruit Training Depot from there he reported to Kanoe Bay, Hawaii for two years. He was stationed at several bases throughout his career. He served from 1966-1967 and 1969-1970 in Vietnam. He was on a ship when they evacuated from Vietnam on April 30, 1975. On June 30, 1980, he retired after serving 20 years, 3 months, and 16 days. Roy retired with the rank of Gunnery Sergeant (E-7). During his service, he received many medals and awards.
After retiring, he moved to Altus, Oklahoma. Then in 1981, Roy made his final move to Cushing, Oklahoma. He joined the VFW in 1984 and was a lifetime member during his service to the VFW. He served several years as Post Commander of Cushing Post. He also became All-State District Commander. Roy was also a life member of the American Legion and served on the Veterans of Foreign Wars Commission.
At VFW, he operated the Bingo game for several years. Until 2014, he also operated and managed the Travelers Bingo until he retired for the final time.
Roy is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Donald, Ruth, Claudine, Kenneth, James, Vern, John, Nancy, Arvada, and Ralph.
Roy is survived by his wife Marilyn of the home; oldest son, Robert of Columbus, Ohio, Richard, and wife Melanie of Cushing, OK, and Raymond and wife Shawna of Missouri; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; his brother Jack and wife Margie of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and sister Ginger of Colorado. He enjoyed spending time with all his family.
