Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Palmer Marler Funeral Home. A Celebration of Sue's life will be held at the Yale Church of Christ on July 8, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.
Sue was born on May 8, 1947, to Velda (Ellis) and Leo Pettegrew in Deming, New Mexico. She was the youngest of 4 siblings and grew up attending school in Bristow, Oklahoma.
Sue met and fell in love with Floyd Mathews, he was the love of her life and they truly were soulmates. They were married on January 29, 1972, in Bristow, Oklahoma and together had a family of five. Sue loved being a mother and making sure her kids always had full stomachs and hearts filled with her love.
Sue worked for many years at Quick-N-EZ and Bulldog convenience store in Yale where she enjoyed the interactions with her many customers and friends.
In her free time, Sue loved needlework and crocheting. She made numerous items for all her family to enjoy. Sue was an avid reader, something she passed on to her children and grandchildren. Sue was a very faithful patron and made many trips to the local library to find a good book to enjoy.
Family was Sue's number one priority, from her kids to her grand and great grandchildren. She had so much love and knowledge to share with them. She loved when family would stop by to visit, even if it was for a short time. Sue was kind and inviting, never met a stranger and considered everyone family.
Sue had a heart of gold and will be missed by all who knew her.
Sue is preceded in death by her husband, both parents, one stepdaughter, one brother, one sister, two grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Sue is survived by four children all of Yale: Leon Couch and wife, Ivana, James Couch and wife, Deanna, Eugene Mathews, and JoAnn Brandon and husband, Harley. Sue is also survived by nineteen grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Heart Associations, or the Yale Library.
