Virginia was born March 19, 1939 in San Juan, Texas to Gilbert Hall and Ara Leola (Dobbs) Hall. She was the third child of five children, 3 girls and 2 boys, Betty, Wanda, Virginia, Dwayne, and Lawson.
She grew up in a small Texas border town in the "Rio Grande Valley". Here she attended Elementary, Jr. High and High School along with her sisters Wanda and Betty. She enjoyed school and was an "A" student as well as being active in sports.
Virginia was baptized into the General Assembly and Church of The Firstborn, on June 22, 1953 by Brother Bill Dobbs. She was baptized along with her sister Wanda and cousin Yvone Irvin at Brother Harmon Colby's Pond on South Western in Oklahoma City.
She began to learn to sew on an old treadle sewing machine at the age of 11 or 12. Her mother had always sewn for 3 girls and had taught her girls to sew also. Virginia's love for sewing became a big part of her life.
Virginia met Eddie Roberts at the church when it was located on Pennsylvania Street in Oklahoma City. They were married on November 20, 1953 in her parent's home in Oklahoma City. Virginia was 14 years of age. Eddie was employed at Tinker Field and they resided in Oklahoma City. When Virginia was 15 her first child, Gary Dale, was born August 20, 1954.
They moved to Olympia, Washington when Gary was only a few weeks old. They attended church at Olympia, they enjoyed meeting and making friends with many brethren. Eddie was then employed at the Post Office. They both learned to love the brethren there, as well as the beautiful country. Soon after returning to Oklahoma City to live, Eddie became ill and after a long illness, passed away on September 8, 1957. He was 23 years old; Virginia was 18 and Gary was 3 years old and the very image of his father.
Virginia made her home in Oklahoma City and Gary attended school there. Much of her time was spent enjoying the brethren in her home and going among other bodies of brethren.
After five years she met and married Carl Herrmann on March 18, 1962. Carl had lost his first wife in a tractor accident. He had two children, Nicky and Deborah. Carl and Virginia made their home in the Parkland area. They ran a dairy and milked Holstein Cows with Gary and Nicky helping to do the milking.
On August 28th of 1963 Randall was born at the old Herrmann homeplace, 4 miles south of Agra on Highway 18. The family enjoyed living in the country having family and brethren in their home.
On March 9th 1971 Rodney Glenn was born north of Agra, when Virginia and Carl lived on the dairy farm. When Rodney was 3 years old, they sold out of the dairy business and moved to Parkland on a small acreage.
On November 23rd 1973, Nicky died in a car accident south of Agra.
On December 17th 1976 Christy Dawn was born, the baby girl Virginia had always wanted, after three boys! She loved frilly dresses, ruffles and lace on all her clothes. She sewed all the children's curtains and quilts through the years as well as her own. She sewed everything from western shirts, leather chaps and leisure suits to prom and wedding dresses. She thoroughly enjoyed being a home maker sewing bedspreads and curtains for herself and others.
Virginia spent many hours taking care of her flowers and landscaping the entire yard in which she loved so much. She laid the stones and mortar for large flower beds. Her love for beautiful flowers was handed down to her from her mother, Ara and Virginia handed down to her girls, Deborah and Christy, this same love.
Carl suffered a massive heart attack and passed away September 15, 1994. Leaving Virginia, his wife of 32 years and Christy of the home. Christy was a senior in High School at the time of her father's death.
After Carl passed away Virginia designed and contracted out herself, a new home. It was built on the same acreage they had lived on for many years. She enjoyed making the decisions and hired many of the brethren to do the work. She kept records and got bids on every stage of the house from the slab work to the brick and interior furnishing. She prepared the arched windows with Masonite, getting them ready for sheetrock as well as completely laying the block glass window all on her own. In December of 1997 she fell and broke her ankle while feeding a couple of horses on a cold Sunday morning, it was snowing! So, most of the work was done while she was on crutches and wearing a cast on one foot.
After remaining a widow for 9 years, on May 3, 2003, she married Melfouse Corter; whom she had known for many years. They were both retired.
During the first few years of their marriage, they traveled among 14 different bodies of brethren as well as visiting in the homes of 250 different brethren. They enjoyed spending time visiting the brethren and having them in their home.
Virginia enjoyed playing the organ and singing spiritual songs with the brethren.
