Obituary

Reba May (Bennett) Harvey passed into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday, October 23, 2024.  She was 89 years old.

Reba was born on May 22, 1935, in Oilton, Oklahoma to John Wesley and Vergie (Mundell) Bennett.  She married Harold Harvey, the love of her life, on February 19, 1954. The newlyweds set up home in Sand Springs, where they raised their daughter Pam, and remained through 55 years of marriage until Harold's passing in 2009.

Soon after marrying, Reba launched a demanding career with Oklahoma Natural Gas as an Executive Secretary for Corporate Communications that would span over 45 years.  While successfully juggling a full-time job and family obligations, Reba found time to be a servant leader.  She was always active – very active – in service to God, family and community.  Whether hosting grandkids for sleepovers, comforting hospice patients, serving as an Election Day volunteer at her polling place, mentoring kids from Hissom Memorial Center, organizing school booster events or crocheting countless blankets for gifts to teen moms, Reba was not one to hesitate whenever she saw a need.

Reba's creativity was similarly boundless.  She was a prolific poet and a gifted photographer.  And as a writer and historian, Reba spanned such a scope in her genealogy research that the book she wrote documenting her family's history garnered the attention of the National Archives.

In keeping with her dedication to God and country, Reba was an active member of the Broadway Baptist Church, First Families of Oklahoma and the Daughters of the American Revolution.

Reba leaves behind her daughter Pam Cummings of Mustang; her brother Don Bennett and his wife Andrea of Tulsa; her three grandchildren: Shanna Vollmer of Sand Springs, Joe Wilson and his wife Rebecca of Harlingen, Texas, and Carla Keiffer of Yukon; and her six great-grandchildren: Brooke, Carson, Levi, Wesley, Emma and Charlie.  She is also loved and missed by brother-in-law Leslie Ellison of Sand Springs, sister-in-law Deanie Ellison of South Carolina, and a host of nieces and nephews.

A visitation is scheduled for Monday, October 28, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Palmer Marler Funeral Home in Cushing with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.  A Celebration of Life service will be held at Palmer Marler in the chapel on Tuesday, October 29, 2024, at 1:00 p.m.  Officiating will be Dr. Kent Choate.  Following the service, Reba's final resting place will be next to her beloved husband Harold at Highland Cemetery in Oilton, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in honor of Reba to Young Life, P.O. Box 533087, Harlingen, TX 78553 (https://giving.younglife.org/inhonorrebaharvey).
