Our Story

A Legacy of Service Since 1896

The story of Palmer Marler Funeral Homes is deeply woven into the history of Cushing. Our roots reach back to 1896, beginning at the Walters Furniture Store on East Broadway. In those early days, neighbors looked to neighbors for support, and that spirit of community service has remained our guiding light for over 130 years.


Through the decades, the stewardship of this home has passed through the hands of the Walters, Garrison, Fairley, and Perry families. In 1989, Duane Marler stepped into this legacy, eventually partnering with Craig Palmer to form the foundation of the Palmer Marler name you know today.


In 2017, the Castor family was honored to take up the mantle of this long-standing tradition. To us, this is more than a business—it is a ministry. We are proud to carry forward the same motto that has guided these halls since 1989: “People Who Care.”


While the world around us has changed and many funeral homes have transitioned into large corporate entities, Palmer Marler remains steadfastly family-operated. We are dedicated to providing the same personal, heartfelt service that began in 1896—neighbors caring for neighbors, just as we always have.
